JROTC
JROTC
The program at Seaside High started in 1985. The Seaside JROTC program is orientated around improving citizenship skills: respect for authority, self-discipline, personal responsibility, leadership, and teamwork. JROTC is an excellent vehicle for the practical application of leadership and citizenship instruction for high school students. Cadets (we refer to our students as cadets) pride themselves on setting high standards of behavior. Physical fitness is stressed as a way of life and the instructional objective is to motivate young people to be better citizens. JROTC is a strictly voluntary class, and it imposes no military service obligation. It has been developed out of the historical background of over 90 years in high schools across the country.

CADET OF THE MONTH
Every month, each company will select one cadet to appear before the Cadet of the Month (COM) Board and compete for the selection of Cadet of the Month. Members of the Battalion Staff, including the Battalion Commander, will evaluate each cadet in the following areas: personal appearance, bearing, and self-confidence; oral expression and conversational skills; the ability to perform drill; knowledge; and leadership potential. Winners promote to the next rank immediately, and receive a ribbon. medal, and cord.

CADET OF THE YEAR
Cadets who won COM throughout the school year will compete against each other for Cadet of the Year (COY) in May. Because each cadet has shown tremendous growth and the most professional attitude, they participate in a grueling board that will challenge them psychologically and emotionally. The winner receives a medal.
